Activation: key basic principles

  1. At the left bottom corner of the License or Protection Manager there is a button to switch the interface language to English.
  2. For activation, a one-off connection is made with the activation server: http://activation.esdnow.com [port 80]. If you want, you can include or except this link in your proxy server or firewall settings.
  3. To activate, you always need a user account, an email address and a password. This means you always have to create a user account first.
  4. You can enter an email address and receive your password via ‘License Manager’ (local activation screen) or via the web page for license management. If you have not received a message within 5 minutes, check if the message can be found in the ‘unsolicited email’ folder. If you have not received any email at all, enter your email address again and click on ‘Retrieve password’.
  5. You can change your password via http://sso.esdnow.com/portal. Select ‘Settings - Change password’ after logging in.
  6. A license (activation of a PC, client or server) is linked to a single user account (e.g. created by a license or application manager). A license can never be linked to two user accounts.
  7. The license will also be linked to one or more computer IDs. The maximum number of computer IDs is decided when the license is purchased and can be extended, if necessary.
  8. Once an activation code has been used for activation, the option ‘Activate again or update activation automatically via internet’ or downloading a 'license file' via the web page for license management will suffice for later activation on a different computer with the same activation code.
In other words: after the first activation, the license only needs to be downloaded.
  9. The license administrator will determine whether user account data (email address and password) is given to other users. A different user can use a user account to activate one or more PCs and consume licenses that way.
  10. If a ‘license file’ has been deleted by accident, it can be easily retrieved using the option ‘Activate again or update activation automatically via internet’ or via the web page for license management. You will not use up any licenses if you do this on the same PC that was activated before.
  11. Activation/reactivation requires (local) administration rights (‘local admin’ rights). To use the application, you only need limited user rights.
  12. If there is a demo period, no more than one user can use the demo license on the same PC at any one time. A different user on the same PC will have no rights to the demo license.

Activation in a stand alone environment

Activate (again or update activation) automatically via internet, manage licenses and download license file via the web browser

Activation in a Citrix environment (Citrix, Remote Desktop or similar technologies)

    Conditions

    1. The application has been installed on a (central) server.
    2. The users start up the application via Citrix Client, remote desktop or other, similar technology.
    3. There is a single activation code for several Citrix Clients.
    4. Citrix Client user names are required to generate a list of computer IDs and write this to a text file.
    5. The list of computer IDs in the text file can be used to generate a license file so that all specific Citrix Clients can be simultaneously activated.

    Activation

    1. Install the application on a Citrix server. See the instructions on DVD and in the ‘Netwerkinstallaties’ manual.
    2. Create a user account via the ‘License Manager’ (esdnowProtectionManager.exe) or via the web pages for license management.
    3. Perform an activation to link the activation code to your user account (license administrator or license desk). You can also do this at a later stage (step 10).
    4. Determine which Citrix users may use the application. Create a text file (e.g. users.txt) and enter all authorised Citrix user names in it. NB: one user name per line!
    5. Download and install the file 'ept-win.msi'. Browse to the installation folder of the application. This contains the file 'esdnowProtectionComputerIDsGenerator.exe'. You can use this and the user list (e.g. 'users.txt') to generate a list of computer IDs (e.g. computerIDs.txt). The default installation folder is: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Esdnow\PT'.
    6. Open the command prompt (Start-Run, type: 'cmd' and press [Enter]). Use the command 'cd' to go to the folder containing the file' esdnowProtectionComputerIDsGenerator.exe'.
    7. Run the following command from the command prompt:

        esdnowProtectionComputerIDsGenerator.exe <users.txt> computerIDs.txt (Remark: the < > should be written around <users.txt>)

NB: User names must be copied exactly! (case and punctuation sensitive).

    8. A text file containing a list of computer IDs will be generated: computerIDs.txt.
    9. Go to the web page for license management (http://sso.esdnow.com/portal).
    10. If you have never used the activation code to activate before, select 'Activate licenses'. If you have previously used the activation code to activate, select the option 'Licenties beheren'.
    11. Enter the activation code.
    12. Open the file with the computer IDs (e.g. computerIDs.txt). Select all computer IDs using [CTRL-A] and copy the data to the clipboard using [CTRL-C].
    13. Click once in the field ‘Computer-ID’s’ and use [CTRL-V] to paste all computer IDs from the clipboard to the field 'Computer-ID’s'. NB: one computer ID per line!
    14. Click on the button 'Activate now'. You will now see an overview of all licenses linked to your user account (license administrator or license desk).
    15. If visible, click on the button 'Download and manage licenses'.
    16. You will now create a license file that you can download in step 5 (not visible yet).
    17. Step 1: Click on the button 'Add license'. You can determine which licenses you want to add to the license file so you can download it. The content of the license file can differ per user/user group!
    18. Step 2: Shows an overview of the licenses that will be in the license file.
    19. Step 3: Shows all computer IDs that will be allowed to use the added licenses. NB: you will consume an activation option for each listed computer ID.
If you have not yet copied and pasted the computer IDs from 'computerIDs.txt', you can do so now (see step 12).
    20. Step 4: Click on the button 'Generate license file'. One moment please: a license file is being generated. Step 5 will now become visible.
    21. Step 5: Click on the button 'Save license file'. Save the file 'esdnowLicenses.txt' in a temporary folder or on a USB flash drive.
    22. Copy the file to the folder 'C:\Users\All Users\esdnow\PT\'. This will only authorise Citrix users ('users.txt') you have used to generate computer IDs ('computerIDs.txt').
    23. Test: Log in as a Citrix user and start up the application. The application will now be activated for this Citrix user. If it is not, check that the license file 'esdnowLicenses.txt' is in the folder 'C:\Users\All Users\esdnow\PT'.

Activation in a non-Citrix environment

Volume installation (application runs on the clients)

    Conditions

    1. The application has been locally installed on the client PCs.
    2. The users start up the application from the local PC and the application runs on the local PC.
    3. There is a single activation code to activate the application.

    Activation

    1. Install the application on the authorised local client PCs. See the instructions on DVD and in the 'Netwerkinstallaties' manual.
    2. Create a user account via the 'License Manager' ('esdnowProtectionManager.exe') or via the web pages for license management.
    3. Perform an activation to link the activation code to your user account (email address and password of the license administrator or license desk).
    4. Determine which client PCs may use the application.
    5. Start up 'C:\Program Files\Esdnow\PT\esdnowProtectionManager.exe' (on the local PC).
    6. Click on the button 'Next'.
    7. Select the option 'Activate again or update activation automatically via internet'.
    8. Enter the previously created user account details (email address and password).
    9. Click on the button 'Next'.
    10. If the license has been successfully retrieved, click on the button 'Finish'.

Alternatives for retrieving via command prompt 'licenties', e.g. if there is a proxy server:

    11. Use the command prompt (Start-Run, type 'cmd' and press [Enter]) to go to the installation folder of the application containing the file 'esdnowProtectionManager.exe'.
    12. Type the following command (examples):
        esdnowProtectionManager.exe user pass

user = user name = email address of the license administrator or license desk (NB! lower case).
pass = password = password received from the activation system when creating a user account.

Examples for environments with a proxy server:
esdnowProtectionManager.exe user pass [proxy host] [proxy port]
esdnowProtectionManager.exe user pass [proxy host] [proxy port] [proxy user] [proxy pass]

user = user name = email address of the license administrator or license desk (NB! lower case).
pass = password = password received from the activation system when creating a user account.

proxy host = Proxy server host
proxy port = Proxy server port
proxy user = user name of the user authorised to bypass the proxy server
proxy pass = password of the user authorised to bypass the proxy server

To run this command remotely on the client PCs, you can use all kinds of well-known (free) tools, such as 'psexec' of the 'PsTools Suite' offered by Microsoft (Sysinternals):

        psexec \\pc1,pc2 -u [username] -p [password] -w "C:\Program Files\Esdnow\PT" "C:\Program Files\Esdnow\PT\esdnowProtectionManager.exe" -d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Van Dale\Vdew" user pass

        psexec @computers.txt -u [username] -p [password] -w "C:\Program Files\Esdnow\PT" "C:\Program Files\Esdnow\PT\esdnowProtectionManager.exe" -d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Van Dale\Vdew" user pass

In the latter example, 'computers.txt' contains a list of IP addresses or 'host names' (one IP address or 'host name' per line).

uuser = user name = email address of the license administrator or license desk (NB! lower case).
pass = password = password received from the activation system when creating a user account.
username = user name (in domain/network) with the correct user rights.
password = password for the (domain/network) user name used.
